Join the Lafayette Rotary Club May 18 at the iconic Lafayette Reservoir on the Rotary stage as three bands and soloists will feature Geroge Gershwin on the 100th Anniversary of Rhapsody In Blue.

Listen to the Gershwin Medley Performed by The Big Band of Rossmoor, An American In Paris by the Acalanes High School Concert Band, and Someone To Watch Over Me by students from Stanley Middle School. Joining Todd Minson Director - Stanley Middle School will be Zack Pitt Smith and his band from Edna Brewer Middle School in Oakland and Randy Porter with his students from Roosevelt Middle School Oakland. Welcome Campolindo High School Band and their new Director – Tana Barnett.

Rhapsody in Blue composed in 1924 is the perfect selection to celebrate with students and seniors alike as it spans both jazz and classical music. Similar to the Big Band of Rossmoor that spans the age range of 12 to 88. Both are a unique and wonderful blend combining American Jazz at Orchestral level with strings flutes and clarinets.

From 11 AM to 3PM enjoy the sounds of students on stage representing Lafayette Rotary’s commitment over 29 years to support music education in schools. This important discipline near extinction in many schools nationwide teaches collaboration and team thinking beyond self. Help us fund instrument repairs, music and more in our schools in Oakland and Lafayette through your support and LPIE.

Join us Saturday May 18 at the park and enjoy a Rotary Hot Dog or Cookie Bake O. Bring a blanket, lawn chair or enjoy a Rotary folding seat.

Parking is charged by EBMUD so arrive early!
