Winter departs and spring arrives, with gentle breezes and beautiful sunshine. The California coast once again welcomes a season of bright sun. The 20th Universe Mulitcultrual Film Festival will be held as scheduled from April 14th to April 16th this year at the Promenade PV in Rolling Hills Estate. Nowadays, there are increasing opportunities more cultures to be presented and expressed on cinema. With Everything Everywhere All at Once sweeping seven Academy Awards and greatly increasing attention focuses on films from different cultures, the Universe Multicultural Film Festival is unveiled once more. We believe that cultures from all around the world are the common treasure of humanity, will burst with new and dazzling brilliance in such a grand event.
What belongs to a culture, belongs to the world; what belongs to the world, belongs to a culture. The Universe Multicultural Film Festival has gone through a 19 editions journey since it’s founding. It aspires to be a stage to showcase the beauty of diverse cultures, a window to connect different nations, and a bridge for multicultural communication. With its unique and advantageous location in the heart of the global film industry – Hollywood, the festival is committed to providing a top-level, professional, and unparalleled platform for those who dream of promoting cultures through film globally.
This year's Universe Multicultural Film Festival continues to maintain it’s world-class standards, from film collection, selection, to inviting Hollywood professional judges to review films, as well as subsequent red carpet and award ceremonies. Meanwhile, we have a total of 38 works from 32 countries shortlisted, covering a wide range of categories such as feature films, short films, screenplays, student films, animation, and music videos. Each work will have sufficent opportunity to express itself freely and shine on this platform provided by the festival.
The misson of the Universe Multicultural Film Festival is to let every aspiring filmmaker, musician, and creator see their dreams accomplished and leave their unforgettable, glorious moments in 2023. A film, from conception, scriptwriting, project initiation to completion, embodies the hard endeavours of countless people. The Universe Multicultural Film Festival hopes to help more filmmakers with a sense of ethnic responsibility to showcase their efforts, talents, and gifts, and engage in professional, in-depth exchanges with world-class international filmmakers.
This year's three-day film festival includes Screenings of Nominated Films, Screenplay Showcase, Global Releases of Multicultural Film, International Distribution Panels, Multicultural Film Market, "Audition for Multicultural Movies" Panel, Pitch & Catch Panel, Produce Global Film Panel, Multicultural Screenplay Panel, and Working with Asian Film Panel, etc. All nominated filmmakers, crew members, and even film enthusiasts will be able to attend various professional forums, panels, and screenings in the festival during the three days. Every nominated film project will receive two exhibition passes provided by the festival's official, which is a true symbol of recognition from film industry.
During the film festival, we will also select the new Maeya Culture Ambassador for the year. The Maeya Culture Ambassador selection is open to the general public for candidate recruitment, and the final ambassador will represent the Maeya and the Universe Multicultural Film Festival n attending film, culture, and multicultural-themed events globally throughout the year, providing an invaluable opportunity for top personal branding and exposure. The three-day film festival will feature a star-studded lineup, with many Hollywood professionals attending forums and providing guidance. Moreover, the third day's award ceremony will feature many Hollywood stars. The festival's red carpet segment will invite local television and news media in Los Angeles for on-site interviews and reporting. The Universe Multicultural Film Festival organizing committee will announce the final list of winners in each category and present paper certificates to the filmmakers in attendance.
Each year, the Universe Multicultural Film Festival specially recommends an outstanding film. This year, the organizing committee has selected the world's first film focusing on the love story of the Mosuo people - the last matriarchal society in China - On Matriarchal Lake. This film will have a special screening at the Universe Multicultural Film Festival on April 15th from 1:20 pm to 3:00 pm, and audiences who are interested in matriarchy society are encouraged to purchase tickets online and attend the screening.
