American Red Cross Crossnotes Updates for March 2024

Clubs and Organizations

March 7, 2024

James, March is Red Cross Month, our annual celebration of the people who make our mission possible — including you.

Every day, countless people from coast to coast turn their compassion into action to help others during times of crisis. With every act, they’re helping to change the lives of their neighbors in need, like those affected by devastating wildfires across Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, and millions more across the nation experiencing severe weather right now.

This month, we invite you join in our mission:

Join Us in Celebrating Red Cross Giving Day

HELP NOW

When help can’t wait during emergencies, people depend on the American Red Cross for critical support. Every eight minutes, Red Cross volunteers respond to a disaster in the U.S. to help families experiencing a crisis. Disasters like home fires and tornadoes can take away a family’s home and cherished memories in a blink of an eye.

On March 27, we hope you will join us in celebrating Red Cross Giving Day, our special fundraising effort to help ensure people don’t face emergencies alone. Learn more and make a gift for Red Cross Giving Day.

WHY I GIVE?

Charleston Woman Saves Husband’s Life with CPR

“I woke up in the ICU. My wife doing CPR is what saved my life.”

Robert Keene was eating dinner with his two children when he went into sudden cardiac arrest and collapsed. His wife, Jennifer Poston, heard him fall to the floor and ran to the kitchen. The couple’s 12-year-old daughter called 911 while Jennifer immediately started CPR. EMTs arrived quickly and took Robert to the hospital, where he later recovered.

Robert is forever grateful that his wife knew what to do and said the whole experience strengthened his bond with his family. “It’s one of those things that you think you’ll never have to go through, but it happened,” Robert said. “She saved my life.”

Dear James,

Ever since President Franklin Roosevelt issued the first Red Cross Month proclamation in 1943, March has been a special time of year to take action and celebrate those whose compassion powers our organization’s lifesaving work.

As we collectively recognize another Red Cross Month, I continue to be in awe of all we’re able to accomplish together. Thanks to steadfast friends like you, the American Red Cross assists 20,000 people every day with our critical services. I truly could not be more grateful for our Red Cross community of volunteers, supporters and partners, whose kindness and commitment make our work possible.

This March, I’m personally inviting you to volunteer, give blood, attend a training or make a donation on Giving Day in celebration of Red Cross Month. By joining in our work, your contribution will continue to grow the compassion that has kept our organization running for more than 140 years.

No matter how you choose to give back, the generosity of supporters like you never ceases to amaze me. I deeply appreciate your dedication to our Red Cross mission.
