Returning Adventures

In 2023, our new trips have proven to be incredibly popular. So, we're bringing back some trips for the first time in over 10 years! Sign up now to secure your spot on these fun adventures, as we continue to explore what the Northeast has to offer.

We hope you'll join us, whether on the trips highlight below or many of our other offerings. With small groups and great camaraderie, we make memories that will last a lifetime on our all trips!

Martha’s Vineyard Escape
November 9 – 12, 2023 Four Days!

Located just off the coast of Massachusetts, this island offers an unspoiled charm probably best exemplified by its many scenic beaches, varying from protected, shallow, clear-water stretches on the northern and eastern sides to expanses of rumbling surf along the south side. The coastal sand plain ecosystem found on Martha’s Vineyard and the surrounding Massachusetts islands is one of the most beautiful and threatened natural systems in the world, with only one percent of its original global acreage still remaining. Enjoy this island escape in the off-season.

Leader: Andy Griswold.
Fee: $1,798. Members: $1,498.

Cape Ann: Boston’s North Shore
December 7 – 10, 2023 Four Days!

Just north of Boston, this area plays host to many species of migratory birds that are not commonly seen in Connecticut. Considered by many to be one of the top birding spots in North America, the North Shore, with its spectacular coastline, is keeper of such well-known names as Newburyport, Gloucester, Marblehead, Plum Island, and Cape Ann. Travelers will explore the rich coastline to enjoy marine mammals, winter sea ducks, pelagic birds, and the unexpected. We’ll look for Dovekie, Thick-billed Murre, King Eider, and more.

Leader: Matt Bell.
Fee: $1,998. Members: $1,498.

New York’s Adirondacks
June 6 – 9, 2024    Four Days!

Adirondack Park in Upstate New York, founded in 1892 to ensure the land would remain accessible to everyone who visited, encompasses nearly all of the Adirondack Mountains. Located on the southernmost boundary between the boreal and eastern forest habitats, the region features Canada Jay, Black–backed Woodpecker, and Boreal Chickadee, along with nearly 20 species of breeding warblers. The mountains are also home to Bicknell’s Thrush, a rare and declining species that breeds only on the peaks of northeast mountains.

Leader: Matt Bell.
Fee: $1,898. Members: $1,398.

Swallow Cruises

Friday, September 8
Sunday, September 10, 17, 24

Witness one of the most spectacular avian events when thousands of Tree Swallows congregate on the lower Connecticut River at sunset to settle in on a giant communal roost during their fall migration. Birds come from miles away, creating a ballet of synchronized flight before settling down. Renowned ornithologist and artist Roger Tory Peterson wrote that “the tornadoes of Tree Swallows eclipsed any other avian spectacle I have ever seen.” Join naturalists as we journey first by steam train and then by boat to see the awe-inspiring display. Enjoy picturesque scenery from a 70-foot Mississippi-style river boat’s three decks. Food, a full bar, and restrooms are on board. Also enjoy round trip transportation to the boat from a historic steam train. If you take only one trip this fall, make sure it’s this one!

Tours are about three and a half hours in length and range in departure from 3:30-5:00 p.m. (The later in the month, the earlier the departure time). Returns to the dock at approximately 8:30pm.

Fee: $55 Members/Nonmembers
