A Summer Of Jazz

2023 Looks like it’s going to make up for all the music we missed in the seasons of the pandemic. Now we can all come together, we are set to do it in spades!

Litchfield Jazz Camp

Camp begins its 27th year on July 2 with the largest enrollment since 2010!  More than 300 students will join us in July from towns across CT and the US.  We even have a large contingent from Bermuda! A big thanks goes to music teachers everywhere who recommend LJC to more than 50% of our campers and to our core staff who make us one of the best, largest and best-managed programs in the country. We begin this session by granting  $65,000 in gifted support to our campers with financial need. Bravo to the many friends and organizations who help make Litchfield Jazz Camp happen!!

Litchfield Jazz Festival - July 28 - 30

Litchfield Jazz Festival takes its 28th bow with a lineup we proudly present. We open on Friday, July 28th, with a former camper and now an in-demand pro at age 17, Brandon Goldberg and his Trio with Special Guest Don Braden. We continue with music all day Saturday from noon to 6:30 PM. On the lineup: pianist Ehud Asherie’s Trio (look for former camper Dezron Douglas at the bass); legendary vibraphonist Steve Nelson’s Quartet; charismatic singer-pianist Champian Fulton; and closing with a blockbuster—guitarist Peter Bernstein’s Quartet. Pete’s group features NEA Jazz Master Al Foster on drums, who at 85 shows not one hint of slowing down, Adam Birnbaum, piano (Adam won the prestigious American Pianists Association Cole Porter Fellowship), and Doug Weiss on bass.

Jazz is all about having a great time, so the weekend begins and ends with parties! Friday evening opens with our traditional Gala with music by top LJC campers, and Sunday features our very first Latin Jazz Brunch. David DeJesus has the baton for this one with a fabulous sextet. David, an LJC faculty member, runs the Jazz Program at SUNY Purchase and directs both the Birdland Big Band and Ron Carter’s Great Big Band. This al fresco event also features a delicious Latin-style brunch with delicious libations. Space is limited, so get in on this now!
