Alamo Danville Artists' Society

The ADAS Society was founded in 1977 as a non-profit organization to foster fine art appreciation and education within our communities and to provide the opportunity for artists' to further their artistic development. Membership and meetings are open to the public and are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Danville Congregational Church Social Hall, 989 San Ramon Valley Boulevard, Danville. It is wise to arrive at least by 7:15 p.m. in order to get a good seat. Meetings feature a lively exchange of creative ideas and demonstrations/lectures by distinguished local and nationally-known guest artists. Our membership currently consists of 210 professional and nonprofessional artists of all levels, including non-artists as well.

Membership in our Society offers many advantages, including the following: annual juried art shows, Art in the Park Art Festival at the Front Street Park in Danville, Annual Open Studios Tour, a monthly newsletter, one-person exhibits, a Circuit where artists display their works for sale in local businesses and institutions, painting-on-location outings, critique groups, an extensive video tape lending library, workshops with local and nationally-known artists, and field trips to far and near places of special interest. Beside many and state-wide trips, there have been trips to Russia, China and France, and Seattle, Washington. In June of 2003, members traveled by bus to Laguna Beach in Southern California to see the Pageant of the Masters and nearby museums and then to Santa Barbara to view museums and galleries there.

Our artists voluntarily donate, to our Community Art Education Program, a percentage of the sale of their paintings from the above-mentioned exhibits and circuit sites. The money in this fund is used to provide cash grants to our local schools, to be used to supplement their art programs. At our December meetings we give these grants to representatives of our local schools. These have totaled, over the last 11 years, well over $62,000.
