Mission:

Achieving wellbeing is the essence of human existence, but a variety of obstacles can hinder the goal and cause misery. Tzu Chi is an international humanitarian organization whose mission is to relieve the suffering of those in need, and create a better world for all.

In Chinese, “tzu” means compassion, and “chi” relief: With open hearts and helping hands, our volunteers are here to serve you.

About Us:

Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen.  In over 40 years, Tzu Chi has grown to be an international humanitarian organization with nearly 10 million volunteers and donors in 50 countries.

Tzu Chi's missions focus on giving material aid to the needy and inspiring love and humanity to both givers and receivers. In addition to charity, the Foundation dedicates itself in the fields of medicine, education, environmental protection, international relief work and the establishment of the world's third largest marrow donor registry. It also promotes humanistic values and community volunteerism.

In 1984, Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation in the U.S. was established in California as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Since then, over 80 offices and facilities have been established with over 100,000 donors and volunteers in the U.S. working to make a difference in their local communities. In 2004, Tzu Chi USA headquarters settled into its permanent home in San Dimas.
