About Us

At Calvary, church is not just on Sunday. It's a daily celebration. Every day of the week, you'll find our pastors and ministry leaders involved with the community and interacting with people on a personal level. Whether it's a phone call that reaches a "live person" at the church or our pastors visiting those who are ill, distressed, or just want to pray, the development of personal relationships is at the core of our ministries.

Just recently Calvary Christian Center sent our Children's Church director, Shea Honey, to Uganda. While in Uganda, Shea, a public school teacher with the Oakland school district, helped in the maintenance of an orphanage for children who's parents have died from the AIDS virus. In addition to her work at the orphanage, Shea taught at a school for ministers and worshipped with the local church.

Shea's trip to Uganda has helped open the doors for Calvary to partner up with indigenous people of Uganda in order to help train and raise up pastors. In fact, Calvary's Senior Pastor, Mike Furlong, and Associate Pastor, Kurt Klose, are embarking on a mission to Uganda to help with building projects, church planting, and assisting the indigenous pastors in their desire to reach the people around them.

Our Youth Pastor, Gena Lane has taken mission trips to Mexico, Romania, Austria, and the Philippines. Along with a group of young adults, Pastor Gena has assisted in church building projects, training youth pastors, ministered at children's orphanages and community outreaches.

At home, our focus is to assist our community in developing closer relationships with each other and with Christ.

Our women's ministry has developed a homebound assistance program, which provides meals and other necessities for those who are suffering from illness.

Our Youth Pastor, Gena Lane, has developed a youth program that has taken her into the public middle schools in Alameda to minister to teens on a weekly basis.

Our nursing home ministry visits the Alameda Care Center twice a month. The elderly enjoy songs, scripture readings, and celebrations with those at Calvary who are committed to encouraging the elderly.

Our men's ministry has developed programs to assist single mothers and senior citizens with building and repair projects. In addition, the men's ministry assists home-missions churches in building projects each year.

Our Halloween outreach carnival ministers to hundreds of people in our community each year. In fact, over 300 pounds of candy was given out along with balloons, glow necklaces and other treats last year. With our annual Halloween carnival, we have been able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our community.

So take a look at the ministries and small groups here at Calvary, where you will be encouraged in your personal walk with Christ.
