Mission:
Our mission is to develop in all children the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values which will enable them to live a productive and self-fulfilling life and engage in responsible citizenship in an ever-changing global society.

Goals:
The Goals for the Danbury Public Schools are written to achieve our mission to educate all children in our schools and to educate them to higher levels. We recognize that to achieve these goals, we must focus on high academic achievement that will close the achievement gap and motivate students to attain excellence.

The attainment of these goals is dependent upon the understanding and acceptance of them by individuals in the school system and their ability to articulate the goals in their daily operations. The leadership in the school system has a major role to play in communicating the goals and demonstrating that school and district programs are aligned with the goals. Therefore, some key strategies have been identified that suggest the necessary leadership behaviors, district climate and decision making needed to foster the achievement of the district's goals.

Each school year, we continue to practice the basic fundamentals of teaching and learning. Sometimes we introduce new curriculum and instructional initiatives. We hire new people in the school system as others retire or leave. All in all, the basic operation of schooling and educating children doesn't experience major changes and looks much the same from year to year. However, we must renew our commitment to achieve our goals with each new group of children and with all existing personnel in the school system. Thus, seven attributes have been identified that we must believe and practice in our day to day operations of the school system. These attributes are the foundation to whether or not we can move results to higher levels.

All knowledge organizations must find the balance between individual professional needs and the needs of the overall organization in order to achieve its goals. Therefore, there must be cohesiveness between and among individuals, professional initiatives, schools and the school system. Six criteria have been established to guide individual and organizational needs in the selection of initiatives.

Finally, we have invested many resources into achieving the goals for the Danbury Public Schools. The largest investment is in human capital. The individuals employed in our system are our greatest asset we commit to our mission of educating all children. From our human capital evolves curriculum and programs that when implemented, as proven strategies, move our students to higher levels of achievement. These strategies represent our investment for which we are held accountable. These strategies represent who we are and the quality of our work.
