East Central Council of Local Governments

128 Colorado Avenue
719-348-5562

The East Central Council of Local Governments (ECCOG) is a voluntary association of the county commissioners and elected municipal officials in Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson and Lincoln counties, Colorado. ECCOG members work together to improve governmental decision-making at the local level.

Policy for the organization is set by an eight-member board of directors which represents each county and its municipalities equally.

The East Central Council of Local Governments is not another layer of government. There are no programs or activities undertaken without obtaining advice from a variety of citizen advisory groups and from the local governments, or without formal approval by the governing board. ECCOG has no taxing authority.

ECCOG's activities are extremely varied, since its needs parallel those of the local governments. Primarily, ECCOG promotes rural development by taking the lead role in coordinating efforts of local and county economic development groups with statewide efforts. ECCOG acts as this region's Area Agency on Aging, helping to fund senior citizens' programs locally, and ECCOG is "The Outback Express," the region's coordinated public transit system. Lastly, ECCOG provides technical assistance and grantsmanship help to its member towns and counties.
