History

In 1959 a group of Missouri Synod Lutherans living in the Vista area, in conjunction with neighboring congregations, began working on forming a new mission Church in Vista. On July 3, 1960, the first worship service was held at the Vista Women's Club. In December, 1960, the current campus of 5.4 acres at the corner of Anza Avenue and San Luis Rey was purchased. The original Church (now Meyer Hall) was completed and dedicated on March 8, 1964.

Pastor Droegemueller, who was ordained on June 18, 1967, arrived on November 1969 is still currently our presiding Pastor, and will celebrate 40 years of service to God in 2007. Below are the milestones in the growth of Faith Lutheran Church and Schools.

- Parish Hall is built (which now houses some of the classrooms when Faith Lutheran School was completed).

- Faith entered the Vicarage Program (Pastoral Interns) and have assisted in the training of 35 pastors to date.

- New office addition for Pastor and office area was built (now computer lab).

- Faith Lutheran Church canvassed the San Luis Rey area and began a new mission (Shepherd of the Valley) in the Ocenaside area. Land was purchased for the mission. It was served by Pastor and Vicars until a permanent pastor could be called several years later.

- Lambs of Faith Preschool was opened.

- The current Vicarage duplex was purchased.

- Faith Lutheran Elementary School was opened with kindergarten. A grade was added each year (currently up to 8th grade).

- A multi-level care retirement facility (now Rancho Vista Retirement Facility) was constructed by members of Faith and Pastor (Faith Gardens Development Corporation).

- Faith Lutheran Extended Daycare was opened.

- A new Sanctuary, lower level, offices, parking lot, etc. were constructed.

- The Lambs of Faith Early Childhood Center was completed, along with many other improvements to the campus, the reconstruction of the parking lot, etc.

- Extensive remodeling was done to the parish hall, constructing permanent classroom walls, restrooms, school offices, etc.

- 2001 Four houses adjacent to the parking lot and located on Monterey Lane were purchased by the Church to allow room for additional expansion if and when needed.

- Two additional classrooms, two restrooms, and some remodeling to the school building were completed.

- A committee was formed and has been studying the needs of the parish and schools for the next 10-20 years. The architectural firm of Richard Yen and Associates was contracted, and after several years of planning, we have arrived at a new facilities plan which should serve our ministries for the next 20 years.
