About Our School

The Greenland Central School currently comprises grades pre-K through 8 with an enrollment of 360 students. The school is organized around three houses, K-2, 3-5 and 6-8, with each grade consisting of 2-3 class sections.

Our faculty continues to devote a great deal of time and attention to refining and aligning our curriculum to the state standards, as well as the grade level and grade span expectations. Greenland teachers continue to work with their SAU 50 colleagues to share best practice, enhance our utilization of Tech Paths curriculum mapping software and to ensure congruence between the state standards, a core district curriculum and local instruction.

The Greenland Central School recently faired very well after evaluation by the State Department of Education, as both our special education and Title I programs underwent the periodic formal onsite reviews. In both areas, our compliance level was outstanding and we received excellent ratings from our evaluators.

School safety is continually viewed as a priority, and through our Emergency Management Team we have implemented important new procedures to ensure a safe and secure school environment. Our schools' ambitious Wellness Committee has also been busy gathering data, constructing a plan of action and generating excellent ideas to both educate and involve our school community in a wellness agenda.

Greenland students enjoy many active and community based learning experiences designed to make their education meaningful, integrated and consistent with our understanding of multiple intelligences. Last spring's school-wide World Awareness Day celebration is an excellent example of just such an event, having touched on all academic disciplines and utilizing a wealth of expertise from within and outside of our immediate school community. This year's theme of "Heroes" will feature an extensive Veteran's Day event and other yearlong opportunities, designed to explore the importance of those who inspire us. Other examples would include, Adopt a Highway, School Law Day, Exchange City, The Golden Bonds Inter generational Program, Leaders in Prevention (L.I.P.), United Way Day of Caring, Physical Best, DARE and much more.

The Greenland Educational Improvement Plan (G.E.I.P.) continues to guide our short and long range goals and initiatives, and it is reviewed and revised annually in concert with our SAU 50 goals and the SAU 50 Professional Development Plan. The G.E.I.P. Steering Committee continues to explore the most effective ways to gather data on student performance and make informed decisions that will positively impact our school.

Our school community is comprised of many dedicated individuals. The entire staff, student body, our school officials, parents and residents continue to support our school through a shared commitment to quality education in Greenland.
