Pema Chödrön and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche Host Being Brave
Meditation Retreat in Richmond, California, May 2-4, 2014

RICHMOND, Calif., Feb. 10, 2014 Shambhala Buddhist spiritual leaders Ani Pema Chödrön and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will host a weekend mindfulness meditation retreat on May 2-4, 2014, at the Craneway Pavilion on the Richmond Marina in Richmond, California.

The event, titled Being Brave Is enlightened society possible?, is part of a series of events held worldwide to share Buddhist teachings on mindfulness, compassion, meditation, and the possibility of developing a more enlightened society in today's world. This will be Pema Chödrön's only public teaching on the West Coast in 2014.

"This is an opportunity for teachings, meditation, and dialogue with two of the world's leading spiritual teachers," said Acharya Adam Lobel, event host. "They will speak to the inner challenges we face, the relevance of meditation, and the urgent need for societal transformation."

Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus joins Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Pema Chödrön as guest speaker. The eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California, his leadership has focused on key issues related to peace and justice.

A Being Brave Children's Program is available to children ages five to 14 and will include teaching and activities that correspond to the Being Brave program. Young participants will take part in meditation practice, community building, mindfulness activities, yoga and movement, discussion, art, poetry, free play, storytelling, time outside, and opportunities for discovery and exploration. Older children will have the opportunity to listen to select teachings.

In keeping with the community-oriented theme of the program, a scholarship fund has been established to support attendance of those who could not otherwise afford to attend. Scholarship fund donations can be made on the event registration website listed below.

Like-minded organizations are invited to become a program sponsor by contacting Camren Von Davis, [email protected].
