Placentia Round Table Women's Club

901 Bradford Avenue
714-993-4560

History :
In 1902, the club began with an invitation from Mrs. Laura Parkins to a group of interested women. Sitting at her "round table", they soon formulated a constitution which declared the organization's purpose, "to cultivate literary pursuits". Members arrived at their monthly meetings by horse and buggy, dressed in their Gibson Girl fashions complete with boned corsets. During the initial years, programs centered on serious topics, such as "ancient and modern Greece", which were assigned, researched and presented by a member.

When the original membership outgrew the "round table" in Mrs. Parkins' home, a club house was built on the corner of Bradford and Chapman Aves. with the help and support of A. S. Bradford and other husbands. In its l00th year, a recently refurbished club house, at 901 N. Bradford, serves as the Placentia Round Table Women's Club headquarters and is an important rental venue in our city for other clubs and individuals to hold special events.

Today the goals of the Round Table are a fun bunch! They are doers, they like to eat out, and they like to GO!

Formally known as Placentia Round Table Women's Club, the group was founded for the purpose of promoting friendships and being of service to the community.

It is affiliated with the worldwide Federation of Women's Clubs as well as the California and Orange District organization.

We enjoy our community work. Some of the groups we have supported re: Christmas Clearing Bureau (which we founded); Boys and Girls Club; our jacket and shoe program supplies needy children with same; we support the local library with liberal grants; our scholarship program gives scholarships to average high school students, not the straight A student.

Our monies also go out to service organizations like the Red Cross, Canine Companions, Salvation Army, MADD, and others. We have been actively involved with helping the Indians in Arizona as well as our own Veterans.

We are a nonprofit group. The funds for our program are raised primarily from our Festival of the Tress, an annual holiday luncheon and fashion show. Beautifully decorated trees are raffled off, brightly wrapped door prizes await 100 lucky guests. It's a wonderful way to start off the holiday season
