History:

Earl Warren College was founded in 1974, as the fourth college at UCSD. It is named in honor of Earl Warren, former Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the only three-term Governor of California. The Warren Court’s legacy of civil rights legislation, including Brown v. Board of Education and Hernandez v. Texas, which gave Mexican Americans the right to serve on juries, serves as a guiding inspiration to the College. The College emphasizes individual responsibility, informed judgment, and an awareness of issues related to both professional and personal development. Since its founding over 30 years ago, the College has witnessed a steady growth to approximately 4,500 students and is proud of its ethnically diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

The achievements of its students are impressive. For example, the median high school GPA of Warren College first year students is approximately 4.0 with a mean SAT score of 1247. More than 25% of Warren College students enter professional or graduate schools shortly after graduating. In comparison to all public universities in the country, UCSD ranks number one in terms of its graduates going on to obtain Ph.D. degrees or M.D. degrees
