Church History

On June 4, 1911 a few scattered residents in the Yorba Linda community realized the need for Christian education for their children. The following year on August 10, 1912, the Friends Church was organized and built on School Street at a cost of $1,513.63. Among the charter members were Frank A. Nixon and Hannah M. Nixon, parents to former President Richard M. Nixon.

In 1928 the growth at Yorba Linda Friends Church called for a new church building to be built at 4842 Main Street to house it's congregation.

Nearly 57 years later, on August 3, 1969 the expansion of God's work continued as 200 church participants broke ground on the five and one-half acre plot at 5211 South Lakeview Avenue. John Parker, chairman of the Finance Committee, was quoted as saying, "We are aware of the sacrifices made in years past which have given us and our children the dedicated ministry we enjoy today. I feel it?s a privilege being able to invest in the on-going work of the church."

To this day the bell from the original 1928 belfry sits proudly on the Lakeview property. No longer does it ring out across the valley to say it is the Lord's day, now it sits proudly as a remembrance to all who walk past it of the rich heritage that calls the Lord's followers to be the sound of Christ's love to all of the world.

"No mere account can tell the story. When did it begin? In 1912? 1928? 1970? or 2004? The consecrated ministers, the dedicated laymen and laywomen: The changed lives. The story has not ended here and now. It will not end until the Lord comes. It goes on and on..."

Mission

We recognize that God is doing amazing things throughout the world but we cannot and should not be involved in all of them. Taking a focused approach to our mission brings clarity, momentum, excitement, involvement, and effectiveness. With our priority to those who have never heard our primary focuses are:

India – Bringing the Gospel to the 300 million Dalits "untouchables" of India who are very open to the Gospel.
Cambodia – Evangelical Friends Church Southwest Mission field. Strategic to reaching Southeast Asia.
Muslim Peoples – One of the biggest challenges to the Gospel. Approximately 1.2 billion worldwide.
International Church Plant; Geneva – Reaching the “de-churched” by reaching out to The "Influencers", those who are in positions that influence others.
