20th Century Women (2016) begins in 1979 Santa Barbara, CA, with determined single mother Dorothea Fields (Annette Bening) raising her adolescent son, Jamie. Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women, Abbie, an artist boarding in the Fields's home (Greta Gerwig) and Julie (Elle Fanning), a teenage neighbor, to help with Jamie's upbringing.
