Pursuant to Section 12-40 of the Connecticut General Statutes, the Town of Wilton hereby notifies all persons liable to pay personal property taxes on tangible personal property owned on the assessment date of October 1, 2022, to file a personal property declaration listing such taxable property, signed and sworn to, on a form prescribed by the Assessor on or before November 1, 2022.

Such taxable property includes, but is not limited to, furniture, fixtures and equipment, electronic data processing equipment, machinery, unregistered motor vehicles and trailers, snowmobiles, tractors, horses, etc. Real Estate and Motor Vehicles registered in Connecticut do not have to be reported.

Any motor vehicle which is not registered in this state shall be subject to property tax in this state if in the normal course of operation such motor vehicle most frequently leaves from and returns to or remains in one or more points within this state. Such motor vehicle shall be subject to such property tax in the municipality in which such motor vehicle most frequently leaves from and returns to or remains. When the owner of such motor vehicle is a resident in any town in the state, it shall be presumed that such motor vehicle most frequently leaves from and returns to or remains in such town unless evidence, satisfactory to the Assessor in such town, is submitted to the contrary.

Failure to file a required declaration by November 1st the taxpayer will be subject to an additional twenty-five percent (25%) assessment penalty. Declaration forms can be obtained in the Wilton Assessor’s Office during normal business hours, as well as, online at www.wiltonct.org/assessors-office.
