December 2, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring Wings and Whimsies:

Zephyr the fairy travels on the wind learning and telling stories. She and her friends from Wings and Whimsies are coming to share Carl Sandburg's story of the Corn Fairies. You may not know one when you see one, but Carl Sandburg's story illuminates these tiny helpers so you will always remember them when you see corn growing or sit down to a delicious corn treat.

Who better to tell fairy tales than a fairy? Join us, as Zephyr the fairy is tells a very special tale of the Corn Fairies by Carl Sandburg. Do you know a corn fairy when you see one? Carl Sandburg's tale of the Corn Fairies, told by Zephyr the Fairy, will help you look more closely at the next cornfield you see. Enjoy making a Corn husk fairy doll to adorn your holiday tree as well!

December 9, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring Chimney Rock Birds of Prey:

The Sandburg family enjoyed bird watching all year long, but they especially enjoyed the winter season when they could see them at the feeders and in the bare trees of the forests.

Chimney Rock State park Naturalist bring the Birds of Prey so you can see them upclose. Enjoy creating a Make and Take bird feeder afterwards!

December 16, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring local storyteller, Ronnie Pepper:

Ronnie Pepper is back again with delightful holiday stories to share about family, adventure and the joy of giving! Enjoy making a holiday memory of your own with a Make and Take holiday ornament to take home.

The Sandburg family enjoyed a simple holiday at home at Connemara. They handmade gifts and baked Swedish springerle cookies, gathered holly and greenery from the grounds to decorate mantels and tables, and cut a white pine from the woods as the Christmas tree. Favorite tree ornaments were glass or paper mache birds. The Christmas season was a time when the family was home and Carl Sandburg took a break from traveling. They gathered in the living room to listen to music, sing songs, and read stories.

Each year the park offers a variety of programs for visitors to enjoy through the “Christmas at Connemara” series. Below you can find videos from programs and Sandburg family recipes to try something new for the holidays.
