24th Annual Mountain Rendezvous

From: Petit Jean State Park

Experience a primitive camp and learn some of the survival skills used by Arkansas pioneers. Watch a variety of demonstrations including muzzle loading rifles, tomahawk throwing and more! Compete in competitions including tomahawk throwing, pioneer pack out, and fire starting. Co-sponsored by the Early Arkansas Reenactors Association. The Rendezvous camps are set up in the old CCC ball field.

Schedule of Events:

November 25, 2022:

11 a.m - 11:30 a.m: Mountain Rendezvous: A Walk in the Woods

Meet Park Interpreter BT for a walk in the woods alongside the Rendezvous encampment. Do you know an oak from a maple? Settlers knew their trees and so should you.

1:30 p.m - 2:15 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Tomahawk Toss

Join park interpreters and volunteers in the Rendezvous Camp for a tomahawk toss adventure. Come test out your skills!

2:30 p.m - 2:45 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Muzzleloader Demonstration

Meet park interpreters and reenactors to watch a muzzleloader demonstration at the Rendezvous Camp.

3:30 p.m - 4 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Fire Starting Demonstration

Reenactors will show their mountain skills, from spark to fire. The public is encouraged to watch, ask questions, and maybe give it a try.

4:15 p.m - 5 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Log Toss

Meet the park interpreters and reenactors to see how the log toss is done.

10 a.m - 10:30 a.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Pioneer Pack Out Competition

Life can be unpredictable on the frontier, and speed could mean the difference of life or death. Think you can pack out all your belongings and “get out of Dodge” faster than the next…

10:30 a.m - 11 a.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Tomahawk Toss

Join park interpreters and volunteers in the Rendezvous Camp for a tomahawk toss adventure. Come test out your skills!

11 a.m - 11:30 a.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Arkansas Furbearers

Have you ever felt the fur of a bear, a coyote, or a fox? Join Park Interpreter Jake to see and touch real furs and learn more about Arkansas’s mammals. This program is great for all ages!

1:30 p.m - 2 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Pioneer Tall Tales

Join Park Interpreter BT at the chimney to hear some tales of old. Truthful elements are not guaranteed.

2 p.m - 2:45 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Tomahawk Throwing Competition

Test your ‘hawk slingin’ capabilities to see if you have what it takes to be the next Tomahawk Throwing Champion! Spectators welcome!

3 p.m - 3:15 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Muzzleloader Demonstration

Meet park interpreters and reenactors to watch a muzzleloader demonstration at the Rendezvous Camp.

4 p.m - 5 p.m: Mountain Rendezvous: Cooking Competition

Watch the pioneers create and prepare their best-looking Rendezvous dish. Dishes will be cooked over the fire or in a Dutch oven.
