The 31st annual Texas Clay Festival will be held in the Gruene Historical District of New Braunfels.

Featuring the work of over 80 Texas potters and clay artists, the festival offers the opportunity to view and purchase a wide variety of pottery, from traditional to sculptural by the top clay artists in the state.

Come out and enjoy the beauty of what Texas clay artists have to offer!

October 28, 2023

Area A

11:00am - Michelle Cuevas
Michelle Cuevas will be demoing a small heart shrine and the components go inside. I will also be demoing my painting/glazing techniques.

1:00pm - Billy Ray Mangham
Billy Ray Mangham will be demonstrating solid/hollow sculpture. I’ll be making a large dog.

3:00pm - Sarah German
Sarah German will be demonstrating how she uses Mason Stains to color clay and then coil build over molds to create her woven work.

Area B

12:00pm - Ryan Lucier
Ryan Lucier "I plan on demonstrating how I form and create my pumpkins. I will demonstrate methods for creating a hollow form, share which tools I prefer to use for sculpting and shaping, then finish by making and attaching the stem."

2:00pm - Lotus
Lotus will be throwing forms on the potters wheel and showing the twisting technique in the style of George Ohr.

4:00pm - Cecy Holcomb
Cecy Holcomb will demonstrate how to make several different forms from a bottom-less cylinder.

October 29, 2023

Area A

11:00am - Pat Johnson
Pat Johnson will demonstrate building methods for her small clay busts which involve coil and slab building. She will discuss adding narrative, thematic and symbolic content to figurative works. Her new surface treatment using Casein paint will also be discussed. You can ask her anything; she has no secrets.

1:00pm - Marian Haigh
Marian Haigh will demonstrate Hand-building techniques with slab construction. Explore how to construct hollow pillow forms and make press molds.

3:00pm - David Hendley
David Hendley will demonstrate using potter’s taps and dies to make bottles with screw-in stoppers and jugs with screw-on caps.

Area B

12:00pm - Mary Fischer
Mary Fischer will print some images on clay slabs, using one or three techniques depending on time and then build a piece using the printed slabs.

2:00pm - Alejandra Almuelle
Alejandra Almuelle will showing how to hand build a vase-candle holder using slabs.
