Rare Lockheed P-38 "Lightning" to Fly!

The weather forecast may call for high temps this coming Saturday, September 3, 2022, but you won't want to miss one of the world's "coolest" treasures — the Museum's Lockheed P-38 "Lightning"  as it takes to the sky.

There are only ten of these precision aircraft left in the world that still fly.  The P-38 was one of the elite fighter aircraft of the Second World War - built right here in Southern California and serving in all theaters of the war while amassing an amazing victory record.  Here's your chance to see this remarkable aircraft up close and watch it fly over the Museum!

Doors to the Planes of Fame open at 9:00am.

We kick-off the day with Hangar Talk - the Planes of Fame Live Magazine at 10:30am.  Hangar Talk for September features a number of great topics (see below) and will conclude at noon.

At 12:15pm the Flying Demo will begin with a brief outdoor presentation about the Museum's Lockheed P-38J followed by the engine start of the aircraft's two 1600-horsepower Allison inline engines directly in front of the crowd.  The aircraft will then taxi away and fly over the Museum for twenty minutes.  Upon its return, guests will get a chance to talk with and ask questions of the P-38 pilot.

Come see history take flight with this month's Flying Demo.
