American Red Cross Crossnotes News - February 2024

Clubs and Organizations

February 8, 2024

James, whether they’re responding to devastating disasters, collecting lifesaving blood donations or lending a hand to our veterans, 90% of the Red Cross workforce is made up of volunteers.

Every day, from coast to coast, these individuals sacrifice their time and energy to share compassion and support with those in need. Our work is possible because of them - so we thought we’d share a few facts about our volunteers:

-- Volunteers help respond to an average of about 65,000 disasters every year

-- More than 25,000 volunteers support Red Cross Blood Services

-- Our volunteer team is home to more than 15,000 nurses and nursing students

Help End the Emergency Shortage, Get a $20 Gift Card

GIVE BLOOD

Over the last 20 years, the number of people donating blood to the Red Cross has fallen by more than 40%. When fewer people donate blood, even small disruptions to blood donations - like the nearly 7,000-unit shortfall in blood donations between Christmas and New Year’s Day - can have dramatic consequences for those in need of emergency blood transfusions.

As thanks for helping us end this emergency blood shortage, you’ll get a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card** by email* when you come to donate in February.

Blood cannot be manufactured or stockpiled and all blood types are urgently needed to ensure patient care isn’t postponed. Will you step up to help folks in your community and beyond? Make your appointment now!

As we move forward in 2024, I continue to be profoundly grateful for our American Red Cross community of compassionate volunteers and generous supporters who power our lifesaving mission every day.

Even after more than 15 years leading this American treasure, I remain deeply inspired by the abundance of kindness and selflessness at the core of our volunteer team. Their ongoing dedication ensures that families nationwide receive comfort, care and hope for tomorrow during their darkest hours.

To recognize our volunteers for their remarkable contributions, the Red Cross is putting together a Valentine’s Day card that will be shared with our volunteer team. I’m delighted to invite you to add your signature to this special message of appreciation. We’re aiming to have 50,000 Red Cross supporters sign the card by midnight on February 13th.

As always, thank you so very much for your steadfast support of our Red Cross mission and the people we serve.
