Call For Art: Urban Expression

An Open Call for Art from OCCCA. All media welcomed

From Basquiat to Zezão, street art, born from the spirit of rebellion and creative resilience, serves as a conduit for marginalized voices, cultural narratives, and social commentary. It speaks to the inherent human desire for self-expression, capturing the raw essence of our diverse communities.

Through their bold strokes and captivating imagery, street artists become agents of change, inviting us to question, imagine, and participate in shaping our surroundings. It transcends the traditional confines of galleries and museums. For decades, this movement was outright ostracized by sectors of the establishment.

OCCCA invites artists from all backgrounds to explore the themes of urban culture, social commentary, personal narratives, and the transformative nature of public spaces. Whether through murals, mixed-media installations, photos, videos or intimate canvas works, artists have the freedom to experiment and push the limits of their creativity.

Submission Guidelines: We invite artists working in various mediums, including paintings, illustration, photography, stencils, mixed media, video, installations and more, to submit their work for consideration. Artworks should explore the themes of community, identity, social commentary, or urban transformation.

About the Juror: Kelly "RISK" Graval has been synonymous with the Los Angeles art community for over 30 Years. From his early days as a founder of the West Coast Graffiti movement to gallery and museum exhibits around the globe, including the 2012 "Art In The Streets" at the LA MoCA and the hugely successful “Beyond The Streets” exhibits in Los Angeles and New York.
