On Friday, Senator Chris Van Hollen and Congressman John Sarbanes welcomed Congressman Joe Neguse, Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands, to the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park for a roundtable discussion about the many ways our region is connecting people to the Bay with an emphasis on environmental education and environmental justice. Together, our enthusiastic, collective effort to protect the Chesapeake Bay sets a nationwide example for the fight against climate change.

SKIPJACK, WILMA LEE RETURNS FROM TILGHMAN ISLAND

Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park's [AMM] historic Skipjack, Wilma Lee is home for the season! Captain Rick and Captain Bill led the crew [Phil Smith, Tim Leahy and Mike Farmer] to our AMM Museum Campus on Monday, March 13th. After spending the winter in Tilghman Island, she is recharged and ready for our Oyster Roast & Sock Burning this Saturday.

The sailing season begins on April 1st!

ANNUAL OYSTER ROAST EDUCATES ON

'ZERO-WASTE'

The Annual Annapolis Oyster Roast & Sock Burning is Saturday, March 18th and AMM is reducing landfill waste by educating our attendees on how to recycle and compost!

At this legendary event, we will use all compostable materials [cups, utensils and plates], recycling aluminum and glass bottles as well as all of our oyster shells.

Did you know...

-One adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day.

-One recycled oyster shell can generate 5 to 6 new oysters.

-Oyster reefs stabilize our shorelines and protect our coastal communities from erosion caused by wind and waves.

-Living oysters and oyster reefs improve water quality, provide habitat and help protect our Chesapeake Bay shoreline.
