A Message from the Director...

Years ago, a cherished and long-time ALLI member lost his beloved wife of many years. He set up a scholarship in her name. The scholarship sent several children with special and or financial needs to the Art League’s Summer Art Adventure Program.

We recently received a letter from a mother, “This is the first program where my daughter felt truly at home with peers of artists who see, think and interpret things in a different way. She absolutely loved the program and her teachers! I never could have afforded to send her to a program like this. My daughter asked if you could send along a painting, she made it for the family to say thank you so much.”

This is just one example of why ALLI is a special place. You know the other reasons.

You've been enjoying your classes, whether it be pastel, watercolor, photography, or ceramics; our exhibitions in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery; and our special events.

But did you know that the Art League of Long Island is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization?  That means that we are a mission-driven community visual arts center.  And we are guided not only by fees like tuition and membership, but also by additional financial support from our community members, like you.

Consider a donation this season to the Art League of Long Island.  Your contribution will support building improvements, studio repairs, exhibitions, and community events. Your donation will ensure that ALLI will continue to offer more classes which both challenge and inspire you.

We are asking you to join our 2022 Annual Appeal by making your donation, no matter what size, on our website at www.artleagueli.org. Donate today and secure ALLI as a visual arts community center where any artist, of any age or ability, is welcomed, excited, and motivated for years to come.

Once again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Marianne Della Croce

What attracts artists to each other…is it love, sex, secrets, similarities in cultural background or artistic styles? Does one serve as muse to the other? Do they support each other equally or is there an imbalance? Does money and fame drive the relationship? In this presentation, we will cover husband and wife artist couples with mainstream values to those marriages that preferred a more bohemian lifestyle. There are also artist teams of parent/child, siblings, mentor/student and unconventional friendship.

No matter the relationship, these artists are permanently intertwined in their place in art history making their private lives as intriguing as the art they created.

Debbie Wells is a museum curator, photographer, graphic artist, and Past President of the Art League of Long Island. Wells is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and active Artist Member of the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City. She is the co-founder of Artful Circle, which provides educational artful virtual and in-person lectures and activities.
