AUDITIONS SCHEDULED FOR LIFEHOUSE THEATER’S ORIGINAL MUSICAL “DANIEL”

Open auditions for LifeHouse Theater’s original musical, “Daniel,” will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at LifeHouse Theater, 1135 N. Church Street, Redlands.

Auditions will be held by appointment and those auditioning must be at least 12 years of age.  “Daniel” is an all male cast, so roles are only open for men to audition.

Appointments can be made online at the LifeHouse Theater website at https://lifehousetheater.com/upcoming-auditions/.  Those auditioning are asked to upload a recent photo and a theatrical resume when making their audition appointment. Those without a theatrical resume can list any performing experience they may have had, though none is required to audition.   Appointments can be made the night of auditions as space permits.

Auditioners should also bring their own sheet music in the preferred key, and be prepared to sing a short selection of about 16 measures.  A pianist will be provided but will not be able to transpose any sheet music.  Auditions with CDs will not be accepted.  Those without sheet music will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” with the accompanist.

“Daniel” opens Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 7:00 PM and will continue on weekends through September 17, 2023.  Performances are Fridays at 7:00 PM, Saturdays at 2:00 PM (except Opening Night) and 7:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM.  In addition to the weekend performances, there will be a special weekday performance at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

Taken from home and family and forced to learn a pagan culture during his 70 year captivity, Daniel’s faith is tested as he refuses to allow anything to compromise his relationship with the Lord.  What prophecies has the Lord sent through Daniel? The thought-provoking truths will linger long after experiencing this stunning stage adventure.

“Daniel” will be directed by Nathan Smith with musical direction by Jeremy Yeo.

Daniel - Hopeful, honorable, bold.  Pensive.  Driven by moral conviction and integrity.  Uncompromising in his devotion to the Lord. Tenor. (age 20-30)

Father - Daniel’s father.  Advisor to the King of Judah.  Loving, playful, wise, fatherly.  Non-singing. (age 50+)

Nebuchadnezzar - Pagan king of the Babylonians.  Strong, prideful, fearsome, ill-tempered.  Baritone. (age 40-50)

Darius - King of the Medo – Persian Empire.  Admirable, a strong warrior, wise, regal.  Becomes good friends with Daniel.  Tenor (age 30-40)

Hananiah - Judean captive.  Friend of Daniel, strong, confident “big brother” type.  Baritone/Tenor (age 20-30)

Meshael - Judean captive.  Friend of Daniel, sarcastic, witty, blunt.  Baritone/Tenor (age 20-30)

Azariah - Judean captive.  Friend of Daniel, nervous, dry, easily depressed.  Baritone/Tenor (age 20-30)

Jeremiah - Wise prophet of Judah.  Tenor (age 50+)

Ashpenaz - Master overseer of Nebuchadnezzar’s advisors.  Spacey, frantic, tunnel-visioned, task-oriented. Non-Singing. (age 30-40)

Arioch - Captain of Nebuchadnezzar’s guard.  Strong, stern, militant.  Shows compassion towards Daniel.  Non-Singing. (age 40+)

Michael - Archangel of the Lord.  Confident, powerful, mysterious.  Strength of God.  High Baritone. (no set age)

Gabriel  - Archangel of the Lord.  Calming, mysterious.  Messenger of God.  Tenor. (no set age)

Mysterious Man - Powerful being that appears before Daniel.  Baritone. (no set age)

Kibir - Leader of the satrap.  Prideful, conniving, manipulative.  Baritone. (age 40-50)

Hased - One of the satrap.  Fierce, brute, intimidating.  Bass/Baritone. (age 40-50)

Garez - One of the satrap.  Haughty, arrogant, vicious.  Tenor. (age 40-50)

Hadoram - Hebrew Scholar.  Gives Daniel the written prophecy from Jeremiah.  Non-singing. (age 30-50)

Balashii - Babylonian convert.  Cautious, unsure, loyal.  Prays with Daniel.  Non-singing. (age 30-50)
