Bayou Vermilion District Board of Commissioners Holds Regular Monthly Meeting on January 25, 2023

Lafayette, LA --The Bayou Vermilion District (BVD) Board of Commissioners held its regular monthly meeting at Vermilionville Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Commissioners in attendance were: David Eaton, President of the Board, Karen Hail, Vice President, Roxanne Bourque, Phyllis Mouton, Holden Hoggatt, Calvin Leger, Glynn Shelly Maturin, II, Board Secretary, and Samuel M. Oliver. Additional BVD staff: Kim Fournet, interim CEO, Brady McKellar, Managing Director of Vermilionville, and Curtis Willingham, Managing Director River and Environment.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Deidre Stock of Kolder, Slaven & company, Shane Miller with the Department of Environmental Quality, Chris Adams of Lafayette Consolidated Government and Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association, and Jennifer Franklin, David Dartez and Kim Dartez of Cane Queen River.

The Board reviewed and approved minutes of their December meeting. Managing Director Brady McKellar and Curtis Willingham presented Staff Reports. No other committee reports were presented for approval.

Deidre Stock addressed the process of surplus funds from the 2022 budget. Finance Committee Chair Karen Hail gave her analysis of December financials. Shane Miller gave a lengthy presentation regarding the state of water quality in the Vermilion. Chris Adams gave some counterpoints to Miller's presentation regarding testing frequency by the Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association. Adams related that while the DEQ tests only every six months, the BVPA tests monthly, so more comparative data can be mined. Jennifer Franklin, David & Kim Dartez of Cane Queen River left before giving their presentation to the board.

In new business, the Board approved the completion of the Compliance Questionnaire. They also voted to change February's meeting date to February 28. The board also held another vote for officers for 2023, with President and Vice President elections ending in ties once again. Shelly Maturin was the sole candidate for Secretary, so he will continue in that position in 2023.

The meeting was then adjourned. The next meeting will be February 28, 2023.
