Hip to Be Square

Digital Submissions Due: Now thru Friday, December 2, at Midnight

Artwork Drop off: Friday, December 9, 4:00 – 7:00pm 5” X 5” prints brought to BAC by photographer to matte, sign, frame and install their pieces.

 7:00pm Installation Pizza Party (BYOB)

Reception: Saturday, December 10, 4:00-6:00 pm 

Artwork Pick up: Sunday, December 18, 11am-1pm

The Hip To Be Square photography exhibition offers the photographer the opportunity to exhibit their photographs in the 1:1 aspect ratio format, also known as the square.

This photography exhibition is an open theme, there are no boundaries to your creativity, just that the print size is 5” x 5”. 

On Friday, December 9th between 4:00 – 7:00pm, photographers will stop by the BAC to matte, sign, frame and install their 5” x 5” square prints and enjoy the Installation Pizza Party (BYOB).

The Installation Pizza Party allows the photographers to have fun, meet other photographers, discuss their creative process (if they want) and support this BAC FUNdraiser.

Play-writing Workshop

Wednesdays 7:00pm 12 sessions

FIRST SESSION NOVEMBER 2, 2022

Belmar Arts Council is pleased to announce they will be hosting Playwrights’ Collective, a workshop for local playwrights to develop original work. 

Meeting each Wednesday at 7pm at Belmar Arts Council, the workshop will foster all genres of plays and focus on character development, character relationships, exposition, action, the use of dialogue to move the story forward, dramatic tension, and more. This is a non-competitive community environment for playwrights to hear their work and get feedback from fellow playwrights and audience members.

The return of the Soup Can Magazine. Local MC, poet and founder Chris Rockwell brings his troop of poets, artists, and musicians from all walks of life to share there stories and work with us. The locally acclaimed poetry and art magazine rocked the house back in August and this time we should expect no different. Enjoy great performances from a variety of different poets, plus live music. This event is also a food drive. If you have non-parishable food items you would like to donate. Please bring them.

Local Women Bandleaders (7:30pm-11:00pm)

Saturday November 19

This is a showcase of some of the best artists to perform on our stage. They so happened to be women. The Belmar Arts Council gives credit to where credit is do. You will witness these different artists bring there own different flavor to the stage in showcase of some of the best local talent around. 

6:30-Gwynne Alden; Local and Nashville based singer songwriter. Instagram: @gwynnealden

7:15-Michelle Fiorenzo;Vocalist and fellow Bandleader of Puppy Grease Instagram:@puppygrease

8:00-Carol Lester; Bandleader, Composer, Producer. Lester mainly finds herself in the realm of jazz and soft rock. She also records Children's Music. carollester.com

8:45-Niki Arrowsmith; Vocalist, Composer, Bandleader. Niki fuses jazz, Black American Music and other contemporary music with her own mix of folk and Eastern Classical and Spiritual Music. 

9:30-Leah Thompson; Vocalist-Composer or Singer-Songwriter, Leah Thompson gives her unique and authentic sound through her original music. Blending r&b, folk, rock, and other thick and mellow sounds.

$5 Donations are strongly encouraged for this event. 

Shared Interest Groups

All groups are facilitated by a BAC member volunteer and meetings are free for BAC members. Guests are warmly welcomed for any two meetings but after that an up to date membership is required.

Photography Interest Group

Saturday, November 5

We will meet at the Scone Pony in Spring Lake between 8:00 - 8:30 for a coffee and scone, and at 8:30 head out to the streets to photograph the amazing sculptures of Seward Johnson.

No charge as always for BAC members, $10 for non-members.

Fiber Friday

November 18 @ the BAC

1 - 2:30pm

This will be our Holiday Celebration! Please bring an example of a simple Winter Holiday Ornament to show and enough copies of the instructions to swap with the group. If you wish to make the actual ornaments to swap, you may do so but not necessary…just the instructions will do. If you can’t make that many copies, we can make more copies at the BAC. If you wish, you may bring cookies but this is a cookie share, not a cookie swap!
