Chamber, City & County Updates
Newsom Rolls Back Water Restrictions After Winter Deluge in California

On Friday, March 25, 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that only a third of California was experiencing drought conditions. Therefore, the Governor has loosened water restrictions due to a series of winter storms which have caused California's rivers to surge and reservoirs to be near capacity. Part of the easement will include eliminating the requirement for citizens to voluntarily conserve 15 percent of their water use. This is a measure in place since July 2021 after the three driest years on record. Furthermore, the state will no longer require large urban water agencies to limit consumption.

Several local water officials are encouraged by the announcement made by the Governor, but they will have to determine how much of the restrictions will be rolled back. Click here to read more.
