Chamber, City & County Updates

Beverly Hills City Council Mulls Expansion Into the Metaverse

During the September 12th Study Session, the Beverly Hills City Council unanimously approved exploring the option of integrating the City into the metaverse to support tourism. Considered the next step in the evolution of the internet, the metaverse combines physical and digital experiences. Consumers can interact using 3D computing, augmented reality, virtual reality, and blockchain to interact with the virtual world.

As a prerequisite for participating in the metaverse, the City would need to purchase digitized parcels of space using cryptocurrencies. The City may then acquire digital properties of real estate in a metaverse ecosystem to build virtual models of City such as City Hall or Rodeo Drive.

Mayor Bosse and Vice Mayor Gold will conduct future liaison meetings to better understand how the City will interact with the metaverse. It will be brought back to the council for consideration before a decision is made.
