10:00 AM - The Live Festival: Cinema and Cinnamon Rolls at Vaughn Library

Cinema and Cinnamon Rolls is back! Our Saturday morning discussion with filmmakers (accompanied by coffee and cinnamon rolls from the Ashland Baking Company) is a highlight of the Festival for many filmgoers. See what goes into making a film, ask questions, and participate in (or just listen to) the dialog between our two invited filmmakers, and anyone else who wants to chime in. This year we are thrilled to have Dawn Mikkleson, director of Minnesota Mean (showing Friday night) and Marius Anderson, director of 40 Below: The Toughest Race in the World (showing Saturday night) join us Saturday morning. Dawn is a Duluth filmmaker whose previous film, Risking Light, won the 2018 Audience Favorite Award at Big Water. Marius is a German filmmaker, working in Duluth, whose film 40 Below won both the Audience Choice and the Best of Fest Awards at the 2023 Minneapolis-St Paul International Film Festival. Big Water's own Claire Duquette will moderate. She's interviewed both directors and promises that this will be a really fun discussion.
