The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is proud to provide a variety of activities regarding the Total Solar Eclipse in Texas on April 8, 2024.

This once in a lifetime event is the first time in over 145 years a total solar eclipse will occur in the Brazos Valley. Bryan/College Station is roughly an hour drive from the path of a total eclipse, but 98.6% of the sun will still be covered beginning around 12:18 pm.

The entire event will take approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, and end close to 2:58 pm. Total coverage of the sun will last about 3 min and 15 seconds.

The Museum is partnering with NASA and Texas A&M University on the NASA Citizen Cate 2024 project, a network of volunteer teams equipped and trained to capture videos of the Sun’s corona—or atmosphere—during the total solar eclipse on April 8.

Museum staff will co-lead Site 5 with TAMU, a site located along the path of totality in Pidcoke, Texas. KBTX staff will be accompanying the team and hope to be able to produce livestreaming video.

In preparation for this phenomenal event, Museum staff prepared an entertaining educational video providing information about the eclipse. It can be viewed on the Museum’s YouTube Channel.
