Our mission seeks to strengthen the arts ecosystem in our borough by helping artists succeed in their careers and ensuring that small arts and culture organizations have the support they need to thrive.

The Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture, in partnership with BCA, presents Born in The Bronx: The Beginning of Global Hip Hop Culture, an exhibition exploring the roots and evolution of Hip Hop, the global phenomenon that originated in the South Bronx in the 1970s through a stunning collection of photographs and memorabilia curated by Johan Kugelberg and Joe Conzo, Jr.

2024 OPEN STREETS AND PUBLIC SPACE PROGRAMMING

Applications are now open for NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) 2024 Open Streets and Public Space Program. The Open Streets Program transforms streets into public spaces open to all. These transformations allow for a range of activities that promote economic development, support schools, facilitate pedestrian and bike mobility, and provide new ways for New Yorkers to enjoy cultural programming and build community.

The Public Space Program initiative connects public spaces such as pedestrian plazas and Open Streets with local organizations that can provide positive, enriching programming and activities of all kinds. Public Space Programming brings arts, culture, fitness, and educational experiences to neighborhoods in need.

BECOME A GRANTS PANELIST

BCA 2024 GRANT CYCLE

BCA seeks artists, arts professionals, and nonprofit and community leaders to serve as panelists for our 2024 and future grant cycles.

Grants panelists review and score applications, provide invaluable panelist comments, and recommend recipients for funding. They play a key role in the grant process, and their knowledge and expertise are crucial in shaping how funds are distributed. Potential panelists from all boroughs are welcome to apply, as BCA’s different grant programs require panelists from in and outside of the Bronx. BCA supports panel diversity in all forms: age, race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, artistic discipline, location, etc.

Selected panelists will be contacted during grant season (fall/winter). All panelists will receive a modest fee.

2023 BRONX CULTURAL VISIONS FUND (BCVF) GRANTEES

Juan Usera is a fourth-generation Bomba practitioner and culture-bearer from Santurce, Puerto Rico. Juan is developing Caribbean Folk Songs for Kids of All Ages (CFSKAA), a music and dance concert that sheds light on an intangible cultural heritage of humanity that has been passed on by people of African descent in the Americas through storytelling, songs, dances, traditional games, and more. Learn more.

Lucille Loren Vasquez is an actor, singer, writer, and dancer based in the Bronx. Lucille's play, Shift the Rain, explores how modern culture and gentrification permanently alters the fabric of a stronghold community in the Bronx. Learn more.

Maya Ciarrocchi is a Bronx-based interdisciplinary artist. Maya's production of Site: Yizkor, a performance and workshop, examines individual and collective experiences of displacement and loss through the lens of Yizkor, a framework that while inherently Jewish, is not limited to the Jewish experience. Learn more.
