Teen Project Studio +2.0
CREATING SUSTAINABLE DESIGNS

Monday and Thursday, 4 - 6 pm
Classes begin on January 23rd
Applications Open !

Art, design, and architecture have the power to change or breathe new life into peoples' appreciation of their surroundings. Our perspectives, behaviors, movement in space, and interactions with each other are determined by art, design, and the pursuit of beauty. The theme for this edition of Teen Project Studio, TPS +2.0 will explore ideas about Design and Peace under the guidance of artist taught by Kayla Weisdorf.

Selected participants will acquire skills in 2D and 3D design: learning about 1- and 2-point perspective, creating three dimensional shapes from paper using origami techniques, and configuring them into assorted structures to experiment with relevant software. Participants will examine case studies in various solutions-oriented projects developed and implemented by artists and designers in the past. Students will also address issues that are important to them and affect them on a day-to-day basis in order to narrow down area of collective interests. TPS +2.0 will explore the neighborhood of West Farms in the Bronx to identify areas that could potentially benefit from a design intervention, with the goal of making a piece to contribute to a designated public space.

Exhibitions

SCALING NATURE
On view from January 19th to March 4th

Bronx River Art Center is pleased to announce that it will open its 2023 exhibition season with Scaling Nature, a show of large-scale mixed-media installation works by three artists (Michele Brody, Linda Cunningham, and Wildriana Paulino), curated by BRAC executive director Gail Nathan.

From the vast whirlwinds of hurricanes expressed by Linda Cunningham’s immense painting, to the tornado-like force of Wildriana Paulino’s spiraling translucent objects, to Michele Brody’s sheets of dried pulp with Cattails in relief capturing the subtle loss of natural species from our daily lives, these massive artworks invite the viewer to be personally engulfed by a feeling of being one with nature, but at the same time wary of the effects of climate change and pollution on our “environment” and our beings.

Opening Reception, Thursday, January 19th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Followed by two related events:

Paper Making Community Workshop on Friday, February 3rd from 3:30pm to 5:30pm (as part of BRAC's new FRIDAY OPEN STUDIOS)

Artist Talk IN CONVERSATION moderated by Hector Canonge on Thursday, February 9th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
