Brooksville, Florida (May 31, 2022) – The City of Brooksville Fire Department announces a Free Smoke Alarm and Installation Program to residents.

The Brooksville Fire Departments Smoke Detector Program offers free smoke alarms to homeowners residing within the City of Brooksville or Hernando County. Residents may request a smoke alarm by completing a form that can be found on the City’s website or by visiting the Brooksville Fire Department administrative office on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The office is located at 85 Veterans Ave., Brooksville. Resident’s must provide proof of residency in Hernando County when applying and installation by the Fire Department is available within Brooksville City limits.

Smoke alarms should be installed in every home to protect life and property. A home fire impacts the life of an American family every 85 seconds. The simple act of having a working smoke alarm in the home can double a family’s chances of surviving a fire. On average, nearly three children die each day in home fires. Overall, roughly eighty percent of home fire deaths in this country occur in homes without working smoke alarms. wherever you determine they are needed.

This Smoke Alarm Program has been funded in part by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) FY 2020 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant Program.
