From: Bushnell-Sage Library

Happy December! Read on to see what’s new at your library.

The kids are taking over! For the month of December, our library art wall is dedicated to showing off the incredible work of our young artists. Stop in and see robots, abstract art, collograph prints, and more. There’s also a collaborative piece of artwork by Southern Berkshire Childcare Program (SBCCP) preschoolers.

Join us for a reception on Friday, December 16 from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Pieces are not for individual sale, but donations are welcome and will fund future art programs at the library.

The big red art swap cabinet is full of supplies - come in and take whatever you need to create holiday magic ? The cabinet is located in our downstairs art room, available during all of the library's open hours.

Thank you to all of our generous donors. We can’t wait to see what our community creates! Be sure to spread the word and let your friends and neighbors know about this shared resource, open to all.

John James Audubon is a celebrated name in American natural and art history, author of the massive volume of bird illustrations, The Birds of America. His legacy is both inspirational and tarnished. He produced timeless work, yet owed some of his success to the African people he enslaved. In contrast, the composer Anthony Philip Heinrich, who at his height was called "The Beethoven of America," is virtually unknown today. When he died, penniless, in a New York flat, he was given a berth in the Audubon burial vault by John's widow, Lucy. Take a tour through the deeply intertwined and weirdly parallel lives of these two American originals -- featuring Audubon's art and excerpts of Heinrich's symphonies, including works dedicated to American birds and to Audubon himself.

Fred Baumgarten has devoted the better part of a quarter of a century researching the stranger-than-fiction connections between Audubon and Heinrich and their respective lives.
