UALBANY ENSEMBLE-IN-RESIDENCE OFFERS FREE CONCERT

(Albany, NY):  The UAlbany Performing Arts Center is pleased to present Capital Trio in a free concert on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 7:30pm on the uptown University at Albany campus located at 1400 Washington Avenue.  The performance is part of a series of four shining the spotlight on local artists. Others in the series include choreographer/filmmaker Hettie Barnhill (Feb. 8 & 9) and two local actors TBA who will be performing the experimental play White Rabbit, Red Rabbit (March 26 & 27).  Last month, guitarist Maria Zemantauski, percussionist Brian Melick and dancer La Nina collaborated in Flamenco Rhythms.

Celebrating twenty-five years performing together and fifteen years as ensemble-in-residence at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center, Capital Trio’s program will feature The Other Way! by David Walther from their 2013 Albany Records recording as well as one of the most beloved trios in the repertory, Dvorak’s “Dumky” Trio from 1891, written just before the composer’s famous visit to New York.

The Capital Trio began as the Cecilia Piano Trio in 1997. Founding and current members Duncan Cumming (piano) and S?o?len Dikener (Cello) were surprised to discover at their first rehearsal that their teachers, Frank Glazer and Paul Tortelier, had performed together in Paris and Boston almost 70 years earlier. The young performers immediately forged a musical bond of friendship. Violinist Hilary Cumming joined the group in 1999.  The trio dedicated themselves to commissioning and performing new works in addition to concerts of standard trio repertoire.  In 2008, they were established as ensemble-in-residence and took on a new name to reflect their new incarnation. Since their UAlbany debut, they have toured the southern United States, New England and Europe in addition to their concerts in New York.

Following the UAlbany performance, the trio will repeat the program at the Stockton Performing Arts Center in New Jersey as a part of an artist exchange program created by the UAlbany Performing Arts Center over a dozen years ago.  The concert at Stockton University will follow a full day of outreach between Capital Trio and Stockton music students.

In addition to this public performance, Capital Trio will offer a program entitled Life Hacks: Classical Music Edition for area high school students at 10am.  Admission is free but reservations are required.
