Schools and Libraries

April 17, 2023

National Library Week is April 23-29, a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

“Chandler Public Library has long served as a trusted institution at the heart of our city, neighborhoods and school campuses,” said Rachelle Kuzyk, Library Manager. “Our libraries serve as a place where everyone can gather, providing resources and opportunities to engage in life-long learning.”

During this week, Chandler Public Library encourages all community members to visit their local library to explore all they have to offer.

Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and eBooks, but there is so much more to Chandler Public Library’s story.

Founded in 1954 by Chandler Junior Woman’s Club, the Library opened with a small collection of books. Today, Chandler Public Library serves 68,000 cardholders. Annually, the Library provides patrons with access to over 250 public computers and hosts 2 million WiFi sessions, presents more than 4,500 programs, and hosts a variety of services to support early literacy, language, immigration and career development.

“This year’s theme, "There’s More to the Story," reminds us that today’s libraries are more about what they can do with and for their communities, not just about what they have on the shelves,” said Kuzyk.

Stop by your local Chandler Public Library branch or visit the Chandler Public Library this week and beyond to see a complete list of happenings going on in each location.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and celebrated by libraries across the country each April.
