City of Anna news: Code Compliance and Keep Anna Beautiful

Government and Politics

October 10, 2022

From: City Of Anna

New Utility rates and Stormwater fees in effect
On Oct. 1, the new Stormwater Utility went into effect. Fees collected through Anna’s stormwater utility will be focused primarily on operations and maintenance as the need for erosion protection, creek channel maintenance, and minor stormwater drainage improvements throughout the city continues to increase.  Additionally, Anna neighbors will see an 8-percent increase in their monthly Utility bill for water/sewage.

Bills calculated after Oct. 1, 2022 shall use the newly adopted rates and fees.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off scheduled for tomorrow, Oct. 8
Gather up your household hazardous waste and e-waste and drop it off at our collection event this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City of Anna Public Works building (3223 N. Powell Pkwy). This event is free for Anna residents and proof of residency is required. Space is limited. The event is rain or shine. Staff will be on hand to help unload items.

National Code Compliance Month
This October, we celebrate National Code Compliance Month. Anna Code Compliance is an office within the Community Enhancement and Compliance division. They maintain a balance between code compliance and code enforcement by identifying dangerous and substandard conditions and implementing programs to ensure a minimum standard is met. The office investigates more than 5,000 cases for potential code violations per year throughout the city.

This month, we'll be sharing videos on social media about the top code violations to help raise awareness of the department’s work and how the community can help keep Anna safe and beautiful.

Spot the pollinators near you
Pollinators and the plants that rely on them are a critical foundation for our native ecosystems and food supply. From Oct. 7-23, we’re joining iNaturalist to celebrate the bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, birds, bats, and other animals that serve as pollinators. Your observations can help us learn more about these organisms and help us manage their habitats and populations for future generations. This project will focus on Texas animal pollinators and the plants they pollinate.

How to Participate:

-Pollinator BioBlitz participants observe and identify pollinators.

-All ages and abilities are encouraged to find pollinators and nectar-producing plants, take photos, and submit them to us!

-Share observations by posting a photo or video to social media with the hashtag #TXpollinators.

-Pollinator observation challenges and informative links will be emailed to all registered participants regularly to add to the fun.
