Lowcountry Voices Presents a Commemorative Concert for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

Stand Up! Resistance, Persistence, and Change

Lowcountry Voices (LCV), a multicultural and ethnically diverse choral performing arts organization, will pay tribute to the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a variety of musical selections.

Lowcountry Voices is delighted to have this opportunity to present this concert with the generous support of Rev. Charlie Murray and the First Baptist Church Family of James Island along with Murray’s Mortuary. This year we are honored to have as a Guest Conductor, Dr. Roland M. Carter, who is a noted and distinguished composer, and the celebrated arranger of Lift Every Voice And Sing.

There will be two performances, one in North Charleston on January 14th and one on James Island on January 16th. Admission is free, but masks are required for both performances.

YWCA's 51st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration

This year the YWCA Greater Charleston is hosting the 51st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration!

The inaugural MLK Celebration in 1972 was one of the first national tributes of its kind. It is the largest MLK celebration in South Carolina and one of Charleston's longest running events.

This year, the entire MLK Celebration will be back in person!

YWCA's inaugural MLK Celebration was one of the first national tributes of its kind. First held on January 15, 1972, this regional event has grown to traditionally encompass 10 days each January and is the largest MLK celebration in South Carolina.

MLK Day Parade

January 16th at 10:30am

Begins on Fishbourne St. alongside Burke High School

Admission: FREE

Come out to cheer on the marching bands, parade floats, dancers, motorcycle groups, and more! It's a great way for the entire family, or company, to openly show support for Dr. King's legacy and dream.

Route: The parade will run from Burke High School along Fishburne Street, then north to Sumter Street, east along Sumter Street to King Street, and then south to Marion Square, turning east onto Calhoun Street.

The parade will also be televised live on NBC WCBD News 2.
