CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council approved a $302,000 construction contract to Mako Contracting of Corpus Christi, TX, for the Salinas Park Connectivity project located in Council District 3. Funding for the project is available from the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Project Fund.

Salinas Park is a regional community park. The park includes accessible play structures, a walking trail, a ball field, and a splash pad with interactive water play features for youth of all ages.

The new project includes connectivity between the parks by constructing a concrete walking path from Airport Park to the existing walking trail at Salinas Park. Additional improvements include a new asphalt parking lot with lighting along the walkway and parking lot. American Electric Power will provide the lighting for the project.

The project also includes removing and replacing small portions of the existing asphalt, curb, gutter, and damaged sidewalk to allow new access through Lawton Street. All improvements will be ADA-compliant, including ADA ramps. The improvements to the park will allow for a safer experience for our community and promote health and fitness.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2023, with completion expected by summer.
