Council Approves the Replacement of Two Local Bridges
Yorktown Road And Ocean Drive Bridges At Cayo Del Oso Slated For Replacement

At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council approved an agreement between the City and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the replacement of two City bridges.

The Yorktown Road Bridge and Ocean Drive Bridge at Cayo Del Oso off Yorktown were selected under the Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program. The federal-aid program is designed to provide funding that enables states to improve the condition of highway bridges through replacement, rehabilitation, and routine preventative maintenance, which in turn increases the safety and traffic efficiency of the community.

Total funding for both projects is estimated at $33.7 million, with the City contributing $3.6 million of in-kind construction work on other bridges and drainage projects within the City.

Under this collaborative effort, TxDOT will be responsible for the entire design and construction of the project. The Ocean Drive Bridge Project is expected to begin in FY 2025, and the Yorktown Bridge in FY 2026. During construction, two-way traffic will be maintained on both bridges.

"As part of our vision to enhance economic development efforts, I am excited for our partnership to ensure safe and efficient infrastructure through the rehabilitation and replacement of two bridges in our City," Mayor Paulette Guajardo said.
