Are you eligible for a reduced water/sewer bill?

Evanston residents who are income-qualified ($35,000 for household of one and $60,000 for household of two) for the Evanston Benefit Card can now receive a reduced rate for water and sewer services provided by the City effective January 1, 2023. 

When to enroll: Enrollment is open January 1 through June 30, 2023.

How to enroll: Bring a copy of your most recent W-2, along with a copy of your lease (for renters), to Parks and Recreation staff at one of the following locations during their office hours:

- Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.
- Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St.
- Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main St.
- Chandler-Newberger Center, 1028 Central St.

Don’t pay a water or sewer bill? Those who qualify will receive an annual payment instead.

Holiday service reminders

The Morton Civic Center and most City facilities will be closed Monday, January 2, for the observed New Year's holiday. View holiday service changes and facility schedules. 

Trash and recycling pickup: Monday through Thursday trash and recycling collections will occur one day later than normal. Friday condo trash and recycling collections will occur on Friday, January 6, 2023.

There's life after the holidays for trees and lights!

What to do with Christmas trees: City crews will pick up Christmas trees for recycling beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 27 on residents' regular refuse pickup day. View tree pickup guidelines.

What to do with burned out bulbs:Holiday string lighting and extension cords can be dropped off for recycling at the Levy Center, Ecology Center, and Robert Crown Center through January 31.

COVID-19 Update

Cases: Evanston reported 111 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 153 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 15.86. 

COVID-19 Community Risk Level:MEDIUM. 

Hospitalizations:View local COVID-19 hospitalizations.

To date, Evanston has had 18,128 total confirmed cases, and 157 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile). 

Change in COVID-19 Case and Death Reporting 

Evanston Health and Human Services Department (EHHS) will be following the lead of the CDC and IDPH in shifting from daily to weekly reporting of COVID-19 cases and deaths.  

Daily case and death data will no longer be reported as of January 1, 2023. Following that date, EHHS will report weekly data on Thursday of each week for the previous week ending Sunday. The CDC announced it was making the shift from daily to weekly reporting of case and death data in October. 

EHHS officials believe that weekly reporting will provide the public with a more accurate picture of COVID-19 trends across the state over time by tracking cases and deaths by the week they arise, rather than the date they are reported, which may be days or weeks later.

The Ackerman Park, Foster Park, and Arrington Lagoon rinks are now open for the season. Unfortunately, the rink at Baker Park is damaged and will not be open at this time. Please remember to follow the open/closed signage at each rink and sign up for rink text/email alerts.
