Who's ready for summer?

Search for summer fun: Browse the 2023 Summer Camp Guide

Register for camp: Evanston residents can register online on Saturday, Feb. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. Registration for nonresidents begins on Monday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.

Apply for a job: Parks & Rec is hiring for a variety of summer positions, including sailing instructors, camp counselors, inclusion aides, and more.

EPD launches Academia de Policia Comunitaria

The Evanston Police Department will kick off its new Spanish Community Police Academy, Academia de Policia Comunitaria, with a six-week class beginning Thursday, Feb. 23. The program is designed to give Spanish-speaking residents a working knowledge of the Police Department and how it operates within the community.

Do you drive a Hyundai?

To combat rising Hyundai vehicle thefts, the Evanston Police Department, in partnership with Hyundai Motor America, will be giving away free steering wheel locks to community members who own or lease a Hyundai that was manufactured in 2021 or prior.

Reserve your lock: Register for a time to pick up your wheel lock. Supplies are limited. Proof of residency or employment in Evanston is required.

Recycling and composting reminders

Looking to reduce, reuse or recycle? We can help!

Repair broken items: Attend an upcoming repair café at the Robert Crown Center and learn how to fix common household items, small appliances, and even clothes.

Schedule a Simple Recycling pickup: Take advantage of the City's contract with Simple Recycling, which provides a free, convenient way to dispose of unwanted clothing and other household goods. 

Recycle holiday trees and lights: Taking down your decorations a little late this year? No worries, there's still time to recycle your Christmas tree and holiday string lighting.

Compost through winter: Sign up for food waste composting services through Collective Resource Compost, the City’s exclusive hauler. Collective Resource Compost offers a variety of service levels, including both year-round and “winter gap” seasonal programs.

COVID-19 Update

Cases: Evanston reported 81 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 105 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 11.57.

COVID-19 Community Risk Level: LOW

Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations.

To date, Evanston has had 18,423 total confirmed cases, and 159 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile).

Join the Main-Dempster Mile for a Lunar New Year Celebration this Sunday, Jan. 22 at Dozika Restaurant! The celebration will include a traditional Lion Dance, wish envelopes, lantern making for kids, and more!

Light the Night at Noyes

Come out to Noyes Cultural Arts Center this Saturday, Jan. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to check out solar and battery-powered light installations created by local artists for Tallmadge Park. Watch as these works light up the night while sipping on hot chocolate. This is a free event.

Learn about available tenant resources

Attend a Tenant Resources Webinar on Wed., Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. to hear speakers from the Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing and the Metropolitan Tenants Organization as they shed light on resources available for tenants in Evanston.

Join Participatory Budgeting Evanston for two Idea Collection Assembly events on January 19 in English and on January 28 in Spanish.

Evanston librarian wins ALA's 'I Love My Librarian Award'

Congratulations to Elacsha Madison from the Evanston Public Library, who won the American Library Association’s coveted I Love My Librarian Award! The award honors exceptional librarians nominated by patrons nationwide for their expertise, dedication and profound impact on their communities. 

Madison serves as the Library’s interim innovation and digital learning manager and is known for her work with Evanston’s teens and for managing collaborative partnerships with schools and nonprofits.
