Calibrating for success this winter!

Evanston’s Public Works Agency will be working hard this winter to keep our public ways clear of snow and ice while minimizing the environmental impacts of these critical operations.

Earlier today, the City hosted a Salt Truck Calibration Mentoring Session, helping City crews and neighboring municipalities practice “sensible spreading” and properly calibrate their winter equipment to:

Reduce over application of salt and brine material

Reduce chlorides in Chicago-area waterways

Reduce chloride waste and materials used

Save money

Provide consistent results

Thank you to The Conservation Foundation, the Chicago Area Waterways Chloride Workgroup, Monroe Truck, and our neighboring municipalities for joining us in this important effort!

Help select Evanston recycling truck art!

In honor of America Recycles Day, the City and District 65 invited Evanston middle schoolers to submit original artwork illustrating why recycling plays a vital role in being good stewards for the planet. Check out the submitted designs and vote for your favorite! The winning design will adorn a City recycling truck.
