First Responder Open House this Sunday

Join the Evanston Fire and Police Departments this Sun., Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a First Responder Open House! The free, family-friendly event will take place at Fire Department headquarters, 909 Lake St. 

Plus, are you ready for your next emergency?

Save the date: The City's Office of Emergency Management will host an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Sat., Oct. 22 and Sun., Oct. 23 at the Robert Crown Community Center. 

Help other prepare: Non-perishable food items, water, batteries, flashlights, and other items are essential in an emergency. Help your neighbors assemble emergency preparedness kits by donating essential items at select Evanston locations.

NU unveils early design concepts for Ryan Field

Northwestern has released renderings of a design for a new Ryan Field stadium to replace the current 97-year-old structure. Review the concept plans and share your input.

New mental health resources are available

988 is confidential, free, and available 24/7/365: The new 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers access to trained crisis counselors who can help with mental health-related distress. 

Need on-site assistance? Trilogy Behavioral Health serves as Evanston's local mental health crisis response team and is available to help before, during, and after a mental health event by providing mobile support, stabilization and immediate access to resources. Call 800-322-8400.

These athletes have Hart!

Evanston Special Recreation athletes got to show off their Olympic medals to comedian Kevin Hart last week at the Sugar Factory in Chicago! A big "thank you" to Special Olympics Illinois for coordinating the opportunity for our athletes and staff.

Let's talk about reparations

The City's Reparations Committee is seeking community participation in  ongoing reparations initiatives in Evanston. Get involved!

Join the conversation: The City is hosting a Town Hall meeting on Sat., Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to share updates on Evanston's Reparations initiative and to provide continued education. Attend the Town Hall in-person at Second Baptist Church or virtually via Zoom. Register to attend and learn more.

Get creative: The Reparations Committee is seeking youth art submissions that respond to the question, “What comes to mind when you think of reparations?" Participate by submitting art in any form by October 12 for a chance to win $200!

COVID-19 Update

Cases: Evanston reported 85 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, compared to 321 for the week prior. The current seven-day moving average of daily confirmed cases is 12.14. (Note: Due to a lab reporting delay, the State reported a large backlog of cases for Evanston last week.)

COVID-19 Community Risk Level: LOW

Hospitalizations: View local COVID-19 hospitalizations.

To date, Evanston has had 16,603 total confirmed cases, and 156 residents have died of illness or complications related to COVID-19. View the City’s interactive COVID-19 dashboard (view on mobile).

Join Evanston Parks & Rec for a scary good time at the 2022 “Zombie Scramble” on Sat., Oct. 22! Sign up for a time slot by October 7 to complete the 2-mile course filled with roaming “zombies.” 

Shoreline Repair Open House postponed

The Shoreline Repair Open House previously scheduled for October 5 has been postponed due to Yom Kippur. Stay tuned for the rescheduled date.

Looking to renew your driver's license?

The City is hosting the Secretary of State’s Mobile DMV on Sat., Oct. 1. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center. Available services include driver's license renewals, license plate sticker renewals, State ID cards, and more.

Apply for the Cook County guaranteed income program

Cook County has announced the largest publicly funded guaranteed income program in the U.S. As part of the program, the County will provide $500 monthly unrestricted cash payments to 3,250 households for two years. Applications will open October 6 through 21 and recipients will be selected by lottery. Residents who already applied for Evanston's program can still apply for the Cook County program if they qualify.
