City to Connect Evanston Teens with Summer Jobs through Mayor’s 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program
Students, employers invited to participate in first of two job fairs on November 11

Evanston youth ages 14 to 18 years are encouraged to find their perfect summer job by participating in the 2023 Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (MSYEP).

This year, to enhance the hiring experience for youth and employers, the City will host two jobs fairs well in advance of the summer season, allowing participants to secure summer employment earlier than ever. The first job fair will take place:

Friday, November 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main St.

Freshman and sophomore students are invited to attend the fair from 9 a.m. to noon, and junior and senior students from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A second job fair is scheduled for Friday, January 6, with the location to be announced later this year.

"For more than three decades, the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program has provided Evanston youth with opportunities to learn, earn, and enjoy the summer season,” said Mayor Daniel Biss. “I’m pleased to see this important program continue to evolve to meet our students’ needs and to ensure that all Evanston youth have access to safe, enriching summer activities.”

Student registration

The MSYEP is open to all Evanston youth ages 14 to 18 who live in zip codes 60201 or 60202. Participants must register in advance to participate in the job fair at cityofevanston.org/summerjob by November 7, 2022. For questions, students should contact [email protected].

Employer registration

Last year, over 70 employer partners helped to provide over 300 summer jobs and 130 paid virtual opportunities for Evanston youth. This year, the City is encouraging even more local businesses to participate in the program. Interested employers must complete the 2023 MSYEP Job Request Form or visit cityofevanston.org/MSYEPemployer by November 7, 2022. This first job fair will prioritize employers who have participated in MSYEP in the past, but will not exclude first-time employers.

About MSYEP

Now in its 31st year, MSYEP gives participating youth up to nine weeks of entry level work experience in a variety of jobs and industries through community-based organizations, City government departments, and private sector businesses. The MSYEP emphasizes real-world labor expectations, increases the awareness of services offered by local community-based organizations, and provides opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy training, occupational skills training, and social-emotional growth.
