City Of Evanston News City To Host Emergency Preparedness Fair, October 22 And 23

EVANSTON, IL - Evanston community members can ensure their household is ready for the next emergency by attending the City of Evanston Office of Emergency Management’s first-ever Emergency Preparedness Fair.

The free community event will be held on Saturday, October 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, October 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Robert Crown Community Center, 1801 Main St.

The event, held in partnership with City departments, nonprofit organizations, social service agencies, utilities and more, will include hands-on training opportunities, presentations and resources covering a variety of topics, such as: 

CPR (pre-registration recommended)
Cybersecurity
Disaster psychology and recovery
Natural hazards
Emergency response planning
Threat management
Managing elderly and disabled populations
Business continuity planning
Interagency cooperation
Free emergency preparedness kits will be available to attendees while supplies last. The event will also include fun and educational activities for children.

Registration is not required for the event but is encouraged. Visit cityofevanston.org/preparednessfair. A detailed schedule of activities, training and breakout sessions will be available online by October 15.

Donate emergency preparedness items
To help ensure all community members are equipped with essential items in the event of an emergency, the City is seeking donations to help assemble emergency preparedness kits.

Community members are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items, water, flashlights and batteries, small first aid kits, manual can openers and local maps at the Robert Crown Community Center, Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, Evanston Ecology Center, Noyes Cultural Center and at Evanston fire stations through October 20.
