Unique approach for Airport Terminal Construction

When it comes to getting the best value for the lowest cost for a new Airport Terminal, the City of Granbury has taken an innovative approach. When the initial attempt came in at a much higher cost than was forecast, the City went a different route.

Using the “Request for Proposal” (RFP) process will create more local opportunities for local business to build the new terminal, near the
new runway.

“Often, there are just a handful of companies with the highly specialized staff and equipment needed to complete the City’s complex infrastructure projects. Building the new terminal requires expertise closer to those of a residential builder, so I want to make sure they have an opportunity to bid on the project,” explained Chris Coffman, Granbury City Manager. “The City is inviting everyone to participate in the RFP process, especially local home builders who employ local workers and are encouraged to use locally-sourced materials when possible.”

The City is working with PGAL, an international design firm specializing in architecture, interiors, engineering, and planning. The next three important dates for the project are: non-mandatory pre-submittal meeting on Oct. 17, the last day for questions is Nov. 4, and the proposal submittal deadline is Nov. 10.
